Animation with Love, Home Sweet Home
The Centre for Art Tapes is pleased to present Animation with Love, Home Sweet Home, a one night only screening of contemporary animation shorts, Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 7:00p.m. at the Carbon Arc Cinema in the Khyber Arts building (1588 Barrington St.).
Each year the Centre for Art Tapes organizes a screening dedicated solely to the art of animation. Siloën Daley and Dylan Edwards curated this year’s screening and chose the theme of Animation with Love, Home Sweet Home.
Speaking on her motivations when curating this screening Siloën says “My favorite part about short films, and short animated films in particular, is experiencing beautiful and creative worlds along with the artist’s personal stories.” Dylan shares his thoughts on the artform: “Animation is unique in its potential to bring a creator’s inner world to life, showing us places that are impossible, yet perfectly understandable.”
Animation with Love, Home Sweet Home includes animations by local, national and international animators. Artists included in the screening are Andrea Dorfman, Odessa Shuquaya, Tara Wells, Jyelle Vogel, Madi Piller, Neely Goniodsky, Dorota Forfa, Nick Fox-Geig, Kandis Friesen, Allison Comrie, Eva Madden-Hagen, Ilse Kramer, Leslie Supnet, Michelle Latimer and Terril Calder, Nancy Jean Tucker, Steve Wiseman, Melanie Colosimo, Elizabeth Belliveau, and Jess MacCormack.
Join us Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 7:00p.m. (doors at 6:30p.m.) at the Carbon Arc Cinema in the Khyber Arts building (1588 Barrington St.). This event is always a sold-out affair. Come early to ensure your seat.
The Centre for Art Tapes is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, and Culture and Heritage. CFAT gratefully acknowledges moving sponsor Premiere Van Lines for their generous support.

Masters degree obtained. Thesis defence was exactly as I expected: intense and a blur. It’s hard to believe that it’s all over, but boy am I relieved.
I’ve posted some photos of the installation here.
What’s next? I’ve been packing my studio and apartment for the last few weeks. This Wednesday I’ll be making my final trek back to the Maritimes. I won’t be rolling in Oceanside in as classy a ride as I left, (no Pink Lady RV this time), but I am pretty excited nonetheless. Work on the horizon and some straight up down time in the ol’ HFX.
So this is good bye Windsor. Although I’ve complained, I can’t deny that I’ve had a pretty great time.
Shout out Sandwich Towne
Shout out The Boot
Shout out Lebel
Ambassador Bridge, I see you.
Shout out Halifax, I’M COMING HOME

I’ve been wrapped up in my support document for the last month but I’m finally able to come up for air. The writing is now finished, all that’s left is the binding.
My thesis exhibition opens on April 13th, and my defence is scheduled for 2pm. Now that the document is done, I’m working on finishing up the work for the show. (See some details from a larger work below).
Speaking of shows, this is the final week to see Lost in Remembrance at the Art Gallery of Windsor. Exhibition comes down on Tuesday.

Just wanted to pass this along.
There is a great new blog out there that a lovely and talented friend of mine has started about exhibitions and events out in the Maritimes. This is fantastic as there is a severe lack of writing and publicity about the east coast to the rest of the country.
Take a look and please follow ART OUT EAST!
Sweetest Little Thing

It is that time of year again. Struts Gallery and the Owens Art Gallery team up for their annual Valentine’s Day fundraiser The Sweetest Little Thing. This is their 12th year, and I am sure it will be just as sappy, sweet and entertaining as 11 before it. It pains me that I am missing out.
So if you’re in the Sackville, New Brunswick area, be sure to get out your flashiest Valentine’s day red and pink attire and head over to the Owens art gallery for a guaranteed night of awesome… But if you’re like me and stuck miles and miles away, head over to www.sweetestlittlething.ca and make a bid on some amazing pieces.
